ATTEMPT TO MISLEAD

In the February 1 edition, The Journal Times gave significant space
to a story with the headline "Treatment instead of Imprisonment,"
written by Janine Anderson.

The story is based upon a study released by the Drug Policy Alliance,
which purports to show that Wisconsin could save $43 million annually
by treating drug offenders instead of incarcerating them.

Regardless of whether this is true or not, I thought that your story
was purposely misleading, representing another hamhanded attempt by
The Journal Times to use their reporting to lobby for causes with
which your staff agrees.

The Drug Policy Alliance is an organization that lobbies in favor of
treatment for drug offenders instead of incarceration. Knowing that
this is the sole purpose of this organization, would not one look
upon their study with a more jaundiced eye? The failure to fully
explain the story shows a breathtaking lack of journalistic
integrity. In the future, please keep your opinions on the Opinion page.
