U.S. BORDER AGENTS SEIZE 45,300 ECSTASY TABLETS
CHAMPLAIN - U.S. border agents in northern New York reported Wednesday
seizing 45,300 tablets of the illicit party drug Ecstasy over the weekend.
More than 26 pounds of methylene-dioxymethamphetamine were found
Saturday at the Champlain checkpoint inside vacuum-sealed bags that
were stuffed among loose peanuts inside boxes, according to U.S.
Customs and Border Protection.
The hallucinogenic tablets were marked with exclamation
points.
Jean Philistin, 55, and Ferlandson Desiriveaux, 35, both from
Montreal, were charged with conspiracy to distribute, the agency said.
Spokesman Kevin Corsaro said at prices ranging from $25 to $40 a pill,
the tablets have an estimated street value of about $1.7 million.
