HOUSE OF DADAH BUSTED IN RAID
Penang, Feb 15:
Police uncovered a drug-processing laboratory and seized a German-made
pistol and an assortment of drugs in six separate raids here since Jan
16.
Four women were among 14 detained in connection with the raids in
George Town, Jelutong, Bukit Mertajam, Seberang Jaya and Kepala Batas.
A Myanmar and an Indonesian were among the men nabbed.
The suspects, believed to be traffickers, are being investigated under
Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act. They face the mandatory death
penalty upon conviction.
State police chief Datuk Christopher Wan Soo Kee told a Press
conference yesterday that in the first raid on Jan 16, police nabbed
three men and a woman at a house in Lebuhraya Batu Lancang in George
Town about 8.30pm.
There, the police team seized 336g of heroin, ketamin (4,244g) and
caffeine (75kg) in three plastic sacks. Also seized were several
drug-processing paraphernalia.
"The seizures led police to believe that the house was used as a
dadah-processing laboratory," added Wan.
In another raid at a house in Jelutong two days later, police seized
83 packets of heroin weighing 428g. A man was detained to facilitate
investigations.
At Alma near Bukit Mertajam on Jan 21, Wan said police raided a house
and detained a Myanmar after seizing a kilogramme of ganja.
Three days later, police seized a slab of ganja weighing 977g from a
car in Seberang Jaya. However, the driver gave police the slip.
Wan said that on Feb 2, police raided a house in Taman Bandar Putra,
Bertam, in Kepala Batas and seized 370g of heroin, a Baretta pistol
and two toy pistols.
Four men and three women were detained to help in investigations.
On Feb 8, police picked up an Indonesian man at a house in Taman
Pelangi near Bukit Mertajam, after seizing 900g of ganja.
