SOLON TO FILE RAPS VS MAYOR OVER 'SHABU MARKET' DEMOLITION
PASIG City Representative Robert "Dudut" Jaworski Jr. said he was
going to file an administrative complaint before the Department of
Interior and Local Government against Pasig City Mayor Vicente Eusebio.
The complaint stems from Eusebio's order last Wednesday to demolish
the shanties at the Mapayapa Compound in the village of Sto. Tomas,
Pasig City that doubled as one-stop-shop "shabu restaurants."
Pasig City legal officer Carlos Abesamis said they were willing to
face whatever charges would be filed against them, even as he
maintained that the demolition was legal.
As of Thursday morning, the area was being leveled, with a backhoe
scooping debris left behind by Eusebio's demolition crew.
The demolition was carried out without prior consent from the police
team that raided the area last Friday.
Police raided the compound of some 100 shanties Friday and arrested
close to 300 suspected traders and users of "shabu" (methamphetamine
hydrochloride).
Some of the shanties offer menus, from which drug dependents can order
"shabu" at various quantities. The compound is around 500 meters from
the city government office
Director Marcelo Ele, chief of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special
Operations Task Force (AID-SOTF), on Wednesday said the demolition
foiled a planned follow-up raid by police to seize additional evidence.
