STONER DUDE HIGHLIGHT

In the Feb. 6 article by Karla Peterson ("Super-fast Super Bowl,"
Currents), she whittled down the four-hour-35-minute Super Bowl event
to 13 minutes 25 seconds of what she saw as highlights.

One of the highlights was a "stoner dude" driving thru Jack in the
Box on a "munchie crisis." I find it very sad that Karla would
consider this a highlight while millions of adolescents at an
impressionable stage in their life are watching the Super Bowl.
Marijuana is the teen drug of choice. Studies show that more young
people smoke marijuana than cigarettes. So why, then, would marijuana
be encouraged on such a widely viewed day, or any day for that matter?

Driving under the influence of marijuana is drugged driving, which is
as dangerous as drunk driving. This irresponsible ad clearly shows
the "stoner dude" behind the wheel of a car. Once again, this
"highlight" is leaving our adolescents with the wrong impression.

Hopefully, responsible parents are openly talking to their teenagers
about the dangers of marijuana, as well as drugged driving and
teaching them to make mature decisions. I know I do, and I would
never want my kids to consider irresponsible ads as "highlights."
