STRUCTURE CHANGES
City councillors voted to dissolve the council select committee on
substance abuse and reform it as a community committee.
Councillor Myrna Leishman explained there were stringent rules for a
select committee, as defined by the Community Charter.
As a community committee, the group will not have to follow the
city's procedural rules, but it will continue to focus on a drug
strategy for the community.
Mayor Stewart Alsgard pointed out the city maintains a vital interest
in the committee. "We set this thing in motion and we intend to see
it through to completion," he said.
The city is providing a grant writer to the committee, Leishman pointed out.
City clerk Marie Claxton said the city is also providing clerical
support to the committee.
