SPECIAL TIPS PROGRAM TO BE REPEATED

Manitoba Crime Stoppers is extending a special program that saw the
doubling-up of cash rewards for information on the making and sale of
methamphetamine in the province.

RCMP Sgt. Larry Renkas said yesterday that because of the success of
the February program Crime Stoppers will repeat it sometime this spring.

Renkas said 14 anonymous callers gave Crime Stoppers information about
clandestine labs a methamphetamine trafficking in rural Manitoba.

Tips on other crimes also increased.

The information about methamphetamine labs and trafficking in the
highly addictive street drug has been passed to investigators in
detachments and the drug section in Winnipeg. "It's been a very
successful program," drug section Staff Sgt. John Flemming said. None
of the tips has led to an arrest so no money has been paid out.

Crime Stoppers launched the program at the end of January. The
volunteer agency doubled the reward for information on the making and
sale of methamphetamine anywhere in Manitoba. It means if any of the
14 tips lead to a major arrest, the tipster can earn as much as $4,000.
