MP TARGETS DRUG DEALERS' CARS

RED DEER (CP) - Dope dealers and their vehicles are the new target in
the sights of central Alberta's crusading anti-drug member of the legislature.

Mary Anne Jablonski is hoping to table a private member's bill
allowing police to seize vehicles from drug dealers who ply their
trade from behind the wheel.

Bill 207, an amendment to the Highway Traffic Safety Act, follows on
the heels of the law which allows police to seize cars from customers
of prostitutes.

Jablonski says she's heard many complaints about dealers dealing from
their cars curbside, sometimes in front of schools.

She said she's optimistic that law sets a good precedent for her new bill.

"I've seen a lot of devastation in families because of drugs and I've
seen families destroyed by the deaths of young people because of
drugs," she said.
