ADDICTION STRATEGY OVERDUE

To the editor:

Re: "Crystal meth strategy wrong," March 10.

I congratulate you on putting the issue of crystal meth in
perspective. It is a problem but as stated it is drug used by someone
who is already a multiple drug user. A caution, however, is that the
survey only considered the cities of Vancouver and Victoria. Anecdotal
stories create the impression that crystal meth use is wider in rural
and suburban situations.

If the government had only done it's homework instead of simply
reacting to a morning radio talk show's claim of an epidemic perhaps
the money would have been better targeted.

As it is, B.C. lacks treatment beds for all types of drug addictions.
When will the province or the federal government actually develop a
long term addictions treatment funding strategy.
