JUST SAY NO
Drugs - Re: "Hypocrites," Letter, March 21, and "Our role in gang
activity," Editorial, March 12.
I reread your editorial after reading Dan Edwards' letter. It gently
hinted that "perhaps we are supporting these gangs by purchasing
illegal drugs."
Excuse me, but there is no perhaps about it.
Every time you buy any illegal product, you are welcoming gangs into
your community. Edwards suggested making these drugs legal would make
the problem go away. I feel he is naive if he thinks gangs won't
refocus to increasing prostitution and fencing more stolen goods.
The only way this problem will go away is if people stop encouraging
illegal activities by happily being part of the problem. Why is
everyone so afraid to campaign to make the public face up to its
responsibilities?
