U.S. AGAIN CITES MANITOBA BORDER AS ENTRY FOR POT

THE U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency has again cited the border between
Manitoba and North Dakota as a major entry point for the unlawful
importation of marijuana into the United States.

Manitoba Tory justice critic Kelvin Goertzen said the reference to the
porous border in a DEA publication a couple of weeks ago is further
evidence that law-enforcement agencies in Manitoba need more resources.

"I think both Winnipeg police and police in rural municipalities do
what they can with the resources they have but I don't think they have
the manpower to go after the big grow-ops," he said.

The DEA publication said, "The presence, of marijuana cultivated in
Canada (both "B.C. Bud" and hydroponically generated) had increased
dramatically. Canadian drug organizations from Vancouver and Manitoba
use the wide North Dakota border with Canada to bring these types of
marijuana into the United States; the bulk of the marijuana is
destined to areas outside North Dakota." Last fall, another DEA
publication accused Manitoba of being the source of increasing amounts
of marijuana on the streets of North Dakota.
