ADD SECURITY TO THE METH FACILITY

$8 million of provincial money is being spent on tackling crystal meth
abuse and rehabilitating addicts. That means more beds, more programs,
more assistance. The Fraser Health Authority will also get an extra
$560,000 to pay for youth outreach workers and harm reduction
measures. Part of the goal is also to prevent alcohol and marijuana
abuse.

Providing this extra money is a good idea because we want Surrey to be
a clean, safe, meth-free community. We want to reduce the number of
drug users as much as we can. With this extra $8 million, we will be
closer to reaching our goal.

Currently under construction is a new detox centre for Surrey, the
Creekside Withdrawal Management Centre. However, this centre will be
part of the Surrey Memorial Hospital. So the location of the centre
could lead to some problems. We wouldn't want some possibly dangerous
addicts going into other parts of the hospital or near patients.
Sicknesses from the drug users might also be spread to patients in the
rest of the hospital.

My suggestion is having some sort of security or surveillance. For the
sickness problem, keeping the place as clean as possible would also
help. Hopefully, no problems will come up.
