TALK TO DETAIL DRUG HOUSE WARNING SIGNS

Citizens can play a big role in shutting down drug houses in their
communities, says Rick Enns, executive director of the Calgary Block
Watch Council.

The volunteer organization is hosting a lecture tonight, aimed at
giving people the tools they need to spot drug operations in their
communities and pass on solid information to police.

"Block Watch is all about noticing the things that are out of place,"
Enns said. "We expect people to go home armed with the knowledge to
start reporting what they see."

The lecture, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the Varsity Community
Association, 4303 Varsity Dr. N.W., will feature a veteran city cop,
Det. Doug Hudacin, a drug unit officer who knows the ins and outs of
the grow-op scene.

Drug manufacturing operations including marijuana grow-ops, meth labs
and cocaine conversion labs will be detailed.

Enns said Calgarians can no longer doubt drug houses are operating in
sleepy communities, showing little regard for demographics or affluence.

"It doesn't matter if you live in a high-end community or not, drugs
and drug labs are prevalent all over."
