PROPOSED LAW TO TARGET MARIJUANA GROW OPS
Victoria (CP)-- Proposed provincial legislation would require B.C.
Hydro and other utilities to warn municipal officials about unusual
electrical consumption at residences. High levels of power use is one
of the key signs that a property is being used to grow large amounts
of marijuana.
Solicitor-General John Les said grow ops are a $7-billion industry in
the province and are largely controlled by organized crime. He said
the legislation would help police find out where the criminals are
operating and put them out of business.
