CITY MP BALKS AT POT LEGALIZATION

LIBERAL delegates overwhelmingly approved a resolution legalizing
marijuana, but Winnipeg North MP Kevin Lamoureux was not among the
supporters.

"I would like to hear what the professionals think," Lamoureux said.
"Having said that, I think it's important for politicians to listen to
what party members are saying. It passed overwhelmingly."

Lamoureux also wants to consult widely with his constituents. He's
already drafted a questionnaire to gauge support for the idea and says
his views will be guided by Winnipeg North voters.

He strongly favoured the creation of a new level of Liberal
"supporters" who can vote for the party's leader. He said he'd love to
see thousands of Winnipeg North voters choose the next leader.
