HARPER COMES OUT FIGHTING

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is sending out the right message when
it comes to crime.

Harper and his newly-formed Conservative government promised to be
tough on criminals if we voted for him.

So far, he appears to be keeping his promise.

Last week, we watched as federal authorities stopped dithering around
and sent packing a notorious gang leader by deporting him to his native land.

This came after the previous government allowed precious court time
to be swallowed up by lawyers arguing the legal merits of this
convicted criminal.

Now, Harper pledges to step it up a few more notches.

The Prime Minister says he will put more police on the street, will
clearly define laws that are preventing officers from laying charges,
make sure that prisoners serve their full time, and put gangsters,
drug dealers and gun users behind bars for longer periods.

If that sounds impossible to do, Harper says the government will
build more jails to accommodate more lawbreakers.

If he follows through on these pledges, it will come as welcome news
to Canadians who have grown weary of watching this country be
hijacked by thugs who use intimidation, combined with legal
loopholes, to threaten the security that we all once enjoyed.

While no one's rights should be trampled on, the perception of many
Canadians is that those who commit the crimes are being protected
while victims never see that justice is being served.

If the Conservatives can display in any form that their tough talk on
crime is real, Canadians will embrace the party.
