CLARK'S CRIME-BILL SUPPORT A MISTAKE
Premier Christy Clark's pledge to support Stephen Harper's omnibus
crime bill and, by extension, its huge financial and social costs to
our province, has left me in a quandary. As a political centrist, I
should be a natural supporter of the B.C. Liberal party. However, I
cannot and will not endorse any public policy that is so antithetical
to reason, logic, and years of observation and research. Increasing
incarceration rates have had a disastrous effect on our neighbours to
the south.
The numbers are in. The war on drugs in particular has been an
unqualified failure of epic proportions. Let's not make the same
mistake in Canada.
Clark should reconsider her position.
