MAINTENANCE PROGRAM NOT GOOD FOR CRYSTAL METH USE
The Editor,
Re: "Do we need 'safe' sites for crystal meth users?" the Now, April 8.
All the information I have seen to this point would indicate that the
transmission of disease is the least of problems for crystal meth
users. PBS Frontline recently did a very large study on meth and when
an addict is not helped in getting off the addiction, it results in
incurable brain damage. The program stated this is not a drug that
can be maintained as each usage requires more drug to gain the "high"
and each further usage causes more incurable damage to the brain.
Even your sidebar comments from 2020Parenting.com states
psychological withdrawal can last for six or more months and still
relapse, depression or suicide is a possibility.
This is not a drug you want to support by maintenance.
