LIBERAL GOV'TS HAVE PUT CRIMINALS' RIGHTS AHEAD OF PUBLIC
SAFETY

Re: "Court's Insite ruling goes to jail," David Akin, column, Oct. 5

Some claim that this ruling should open the door for prisons to
provide substitute mood- altering potions for inmates who are drug
addicts and give them some comfort while being deprived of their
illegal drugs.

I am a peanut butter addict and get my daily fix by eating spoonfuls
of it right from jar on a daily basis and, much like an alcoholic who
sees pink elephants if they don't get to drink a bottle of liquor
every day, I would feel something is drastically missing from my daily
food menu and perhaps hallucinate from being denied this simple
harmless pleasure.

Does this ruling mean that if I went to jail, they would have to keep
me supplied with a bottle of peanut every day in order to satisfy this
craving and keep me happy and comfortable while behind bars?

Just kidding, of course, but an example of the ludicrously lenient
system of justice imposed on our society by past Liberal governments
where the civil rights of criminals seem to trump the safety of our
society.

Thankfully, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has tabled a Criminal
Justice Bill that will end this nonsense.
