STATE OF DISBELIEF
Re: Brian Lilley's column of Sept. 23 ("Crime bill a step in the right
direction"), I don't remember hearing of Canadians being concerned
about people producing marijuana in the comfort of their own homes,
yet the Conservatives are aiming to introduce stiffer penalties for
growing pot in legislation that also gets tougher on sex crimes. When
it comes to sentencing, they seem to be equating marijuana production
- -- a victimless crime -- with crimes that truly are reprehensible such
as sexual offences against children. Anyone who approves this bill is
out of touch with reality.

(Tougher sentences for many offences are needed, so much of the bill
is worthwhile)
