THE CRIME BILL AND JUSTICE
I was in total agreement with Stephen Maher's comments until reaching
the final paragraphs, in which he suggested aging boomers will support
tough-on crime policies because they feel vulnerable. Although I'm a
boomer, I think most of the measures in the wide-sweeping and cleverly
named crime bill that the Conservative government just introduced will
not keep me safer at all. The money involved would be better spent
trying to solve the social issues that give rise to crime.
It's the thought of Stephen Harper in power for the next five years
and beyond that will, as Maher put it, drive me to drink; that, and
being dismissed as being so "vulnerable" that I don't know the
difference between good policies and bad ones.
