PROBE INTO COUNCIL CONTINUES
The District of Mission Council is hoping to release information to
the public about documents on a variety of issues that have allegedly
been leaked from private council meetings.
Council unanimously voted in February to initiate an investigation
after concerns were raised over the unauthorized release of
information from in-camera council meetings.
According to district spokesman Paul Gi p p s, council is concerned
information on a variety of issues has reportedly been leaked to the
public.
This includes but is not limited to the Public Safety Inspection Team
and the district's controversial controlled substance property bylaw -
or marijuana bylaw - and the Stave Lake P3 water proposal.
"It's ongoing. I know council is eager to provide as much about that
as possible," said Gipps.
"They're working on it, I can tell you that."
Mission councillor Jenny Stevens was the subject of controversy in May
after members of the RCMP seized her personal computer in connection
to a breach of trust investigation after information into the PSIT was
allegedly distributed to the public.
Stevens' computer, which she relies heavily on because she is visually
impaired, was returned to her not long after the seizure.
No charges were laid in the case.
Gipps said he couldn't comment on if the RCMP investigation that
Stevens was involved in was related to the district's current
investigation.
There is no word yet on when the District of Mission will announce its
findings on the investigation.
