CLARIFY THE LAW
The Aug. 25 article "Could court ruling be the end of medicinal pot
shops in Michigan?" stated: "The issue is whether certified patients
who don't want to grow their own pot can buy it from someone else."
This is incorrect. Patients are not permitted to purchase plants, and
this is clearly indicated on the cards issued by the State of
Michigan. They can have a certified caregiver, whom they must
identify, grow the marijuana for them. But who's going to want to take
that chance if the state determines it's illegal for anyone to provide
it?
It's absurd that patients can legally purchase more addictive drugs
that carry many more side effects. It's also ridiculous that
dispensaries are considered a public nuisance while bars are not.
Voters in Michigan voted for the rights of patients to have access to
marijuana. If the law is unclear, it needs to be clarified. Denying
patients access and raiding dispensaries are not the answer.
