TIP-LINE GETS PUSH FROM CSC
The Correctional Service of Canada is hoping everyone will feel free
to call a new telephone tip-line if they have information on
activities that relate to the safety and security of any federal
institution.
Officials are reminding the public of the tip-line after corrections
officers discovered another drug-filled tennis ball on April 9 inside
Matsqui Institution's inner perimeter fence, beside the exercise yard.
The tennis ball held 8.4 grams of marijuana; 13.4 grams of marijuana
laced with amphetamines; 2.8 grams of cocaine and 1.6 grams of heroin,
with a total street value of $970, according to a CSC release.
Two other tennis balls filled with steroid pills and marijuana were
found inside the medium-security prison's fences in March.
"I don't think it indicates more of a trend," said Matsqui Institution
acting assistant warden Cindy Lewis.
"It's just one of the ways people try to get drugs into institutions,
unfortunately."
The tip-line was set up earlier this year. The toll-free number is
1-866-955-5550.
