BUTTE COUNTY POT ORDINANCE FOE CLAIM PETITION SUCCESS

OROVILLE - The referendum to repeal Butte County's medical marijuana
ordinance or put it before voters was certified with enough
signatures, according to referendum advocates.

The Butte County Registrar of Voters office certified more than 9,000
valid voter signatures on the petition, which only needed 7,605
signatures to move forward, according to a press release late this
afternoon from the Citizens for Compassionate Use.

On May 24, the Butte County Board of Supervisors adopted an ordinance
that banned medical marijuana gardens on lots smaller than a half-acre
and within 1,000 feet of a school, church or other facility, along
with other restrictions.

The board can repeal the ordinance, hold a special election or put it
on the June 2012 ballot.
