ORDER OVERTURNED FOR DEALER IN U.S. PRISON

The Federal Court has found that the public safety minister failed to
provide "cogent evidence" of a threat to Canada when he denied a
request by a Canadian man convicted of drug trafficking in the U.S. to
serve the remainder of his sentence in this country.

In 2008, Alexie Randhawa of B.C. was sentenced to five years in prison
in California after pleading guilty to conspiring to traffic
narcotics. In 2010, Vic Toews denied Randhawa's request to serve his
time in Canada.

Federal Court judge Douglas R. Campbell has found that the minister
did not provide adequate justification for the denial. The judge
ordered the minister to reassess his decision within 60 days.
