DRUG BEDS ARE A WASTE OF OUR VALUABLE DOLLARS

EDITOR, THE TIMES:

This is directed toward Tiana Nagy's letter on April 11 - Why are we
wasting money on drug beds?

I agree 100 per cent that the key word is "wasting." This government
decision is hypocritical.

One year they complain how they need to stop drug crimes and
addiction, then the next year they're helping them all out. It's like
encouraging this lifestyle.

This is going beyond generosity. These people choose to live like
this. It may be difficult to stop, but that's no excuse.

Money should be used wisely, where we see better returns from it -
instead of for "quick-fix" bleeding heart causes. This is no quick
fix to anything; it just perpetuates the problem.

But to think back and know that the government is proposing to
support this altered state of mind, a place for them to rest after a
day of crime, it makes me sick to my stomach.

I strongly suggest this money be used on something that makes life
better for everyone, like animal shelters, child abuse, education or poverty.

There are many better options, and I want to see something chosen
that is actually worth our dollars.
