MAKE YOUR OWN CHOICE
To the students demonstrating at the Capitol on May 17, in opposition
to medical marijuana: First, it's hard enough to concentrate at a
busy four-way stop at 5 p.m. -- on a workday -- without having
someone yell and shake a sign at you; if you're really concerned
about a safe society, please find out a more considerate way of
getting your word out.
And second, you want a drug-free school? Dream on. I attended high
school almost 40 years ago in a Montana town less than one-tenth the
size of Helena. Pot was completely illegal -- and it was everywhere.
I didn't rely on legislation to "protect" me; I made a choice and
didn't use drugs. You should do the same. Additionally, you should
advocate for reasonable legislation that enables law-abiding people
who are suffering and in pain to receive the relief they deserve.
