Medical Marijuana News of the Week

Blackballed?

Jay Sanner is pretty sure the Fountain Valley Baseball Association
banned him from coaching this year due to medical marijuana, which he
uses to treat symptoms of the chemotherapy he's undergoing in an
attempt to kill his colon cancer.

FVBA president Carl Benda is pretty sure he doesn't want to comment.
At least he was when reached by phone this week.

Either way, documents and e-mails obtained by the Indy tell an odd
story, wherein a special board meeting was convened last week in part
to decide a verbal abuse complaint issued against the longtime coach,
as well as the comfort level the board had with Sanner's use of
prescription drugs and MMJ. Sanner says two board members voted
against him - with the rest abstaining, as they knew the attempt was
wrong - while meeting minutes say it was a 6-0 vote, with one abstention.

When reached by the Indy, board member Kim Aderholt confirmed the
minutes are accurate, but declined to comment further, as did member
Kenny Bosier. Both cited concerns over potential future litigation.

As for Benda, Sanner says the board violated its own code when it
neglected to issue a written account of the complaint and resolution
within 48 to 72 hours. Benda said in an e-mail to fellow board members
that his lawyer advised him to issue nothing to Sanner except the
meeting minutes, which the coach says he has still not received.

In the meantime, an online petition drive to reinstate Sanner has
begun, while a protest by Coloradans 4 Cannabis Patient Rights is
scheduled for 10:30 a.m., April 16 at John Metcalf Memorial Park in
Fountain.

"To say they have problems, worried about me and my attitude, I mean,
come on," the coach said last week. "Seven years of coaching there, no
problems."
