MONEY IS MADE WHILE PEOPLE LOSE THEIR LIVES

Dear Editor:

The widespread selling and use of drugs in this and other countries
is definitely a matter that needs to be dealt with immediately. The
so-called war on drugs unfortunately does not address the most
serious side of the issue.

Why is the emphasis on the casual user and street dealer, rather than
the "high level fat cats" who make millions of dollars that continue
to perpetuate the whole disastrous nightmare?

I'll tell you. It's because illegal drugs - just like legal drugs
such as alcohol and tobacco -- are a multi-billion dollar business.

The plain and simple fact is that while money is being made, people
- -- both Black and white -- are losing their lives and minds.

"Do guns kill people or do people with guns kill people?" is the same
principle with drugs. Are the drugs themselves the real enemy or are
the people who make drugs available the real enemy?
