NO TO C-15
Dear Editor,
I'd like to take the time to inform your readers of a socially damaging
Bill that the Conservative government is trying to pass. Bill C-15 is
blanketed as a anti-crime Bill, created to curb organized crime. Though
there are specific measures in the Bill that pertain to stiffer penalties
for organized crime related offenses, there are also measures that hurt
the average Canadian.
It is not a secret that at least 30 percent of Canadians enjoy smoking
cannabis, with occasional smoking bumping up that figure. Bill C-15 has a
huge target on the back of that 30 percent.
Bill C-15 proposes a manditory minimum sentence of six months in jail for
procuring one single cannabis plant, or nine months if you live in a
rented house. Imagine being penned up with theives, rapists, andgeneral
thugs, for growing the earth's most medicinal plant in your own backyard.
I ask, who are the real criminals? It is absurd that the government
supports liquor sales and denies a regulated cannabis sales system. There
has never been one death attributed to the consumption of pot, yet
thousands of people die every year thanks to our legal "friend" liquor.
I urge everyone to contact their MP and tell them that you are against
Bill C-15. Also contact Canada's Justice Minister Rob Nicholson at
nicholson.r@parl.gc.ca Remember to be polite and articulate, or your
letter will not be entertained. Be active; your freedoms are in jeopardy.
Peace on pot, Andy Indica
