ABBOTSFORD POLICE FIND TWO CHILDREN DURING DRUG RAIDS
Abbotsford police have found two young children in two days during
drug raids on houses linked to the United Nations gang.
On Thursday, police found a three-year old in a house owned by Hugo
Oswald Castaneda, the brother of UN gangster Elliott Castaneda who was
gunned down in Mexico in July 2008.
And the day before, a four-year-old girl was taken into government
custody after her parents, UN member Hien Quang Bui and Thuy Hoang
Bui, were arrested after police seized a stash of heroin and cocaine
in a Disney Store bag in the same room as the child.
Const. Ian MacDonald said it is disturbing that preschool children are
being put at risk by suspected traffickers.
"If putting your child in harm's way as you live your gangster
drug-dealer lifestyle isn't the most selfish act, I don't know what
is," MacDonald said.
The child in the Castaneda house is in the custody of relatives. More
information on the arrest is expected to be released today.
Elliott (Taco) Castaneda, an Abbotsford real estate agent, was shot to
death at a Guadalajara taco stand along with another UN gangster and
former B.C. resident Lou Kaawach.
Homeowner Hugo, 34, was convicted in September 1998 of trafficking in
narcotics in Abbotsford and got a six-month sentence.
MacDonald said the department's Drug Enforcement Unit has other
investigations in the works.
"That is our No. 1 priority to go after gangsters and we are going to
do it," MacDonald said. "The intelligence and information we have
coming in is just in an abundance. We are just going to be hammering
people."
The Buis were picked in a house at 36211 Sandringham Drive, which is
listed on car leases as their residence though it is owned by another
two people.
The Buis own a house on Dehavilland in Abbotsford, according to the
Land Title Registry.
As police arrived at the Sandringham house, Hien Quang Bui, 38, tried
to drive away, but was arrested.
Thuy Hoang Bui, 33, and the little
girl were in a master bedroom where investigators seized a total of
9.5 ounces of cocaine, six ounces of heroin, $3,600 and a small
quantity of individually packaged marijuana.
In the pink shopping bag with Sleeping Beauty on it was a scale and an
opened blue-zippered pouch containing a clear plastic bag with heroin
and cocaine, MacDonald said.
Drug paraphernalia was located throughout the home.
Hien Bui was convicted of trafficking in Abbotsford in September 2007
and got six months in jail.
Abbotsford police have made several arrests in recent months linked to
the UN, the Red Scorpions gang and independent drug
traffickers.
In fact, MacDonald confirmed Thursday that the city's latest homicide
victim -- Tyler Dziwak -- was arrested in a drug raid on two
Abbotsford houses on Jan. 14, just a week before he was found fatally
stabbed on Ross Road in Abbotsford.
Tyler and his 53-year-old father Tadeusz Dziwak were arrested at the
elder man's residence at 5237 Gladwin, where police found OxyContin,
ecstasy, heroin, marijuana and cocaine.
Tyler's girlfriend Krista Houle, 27, was arrested at the condo she
shared with Tyler and their four-year-old daughter in the 33500-block
of Holland Avenue. Quantities of all five illicit products were also
seized at the condo, MacDonald said.
Meanwhile, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team wants anyone
with information about Dziwak's murder to call their tip line
1-877-551-IHIT.
