POT-RELATED BUILDING RULES APPROVED
Green Oak Township has approved zoning-ordinance changes that
incorporate state-approved medical marijuana use, possession and
growth into the township's rules for building uses.
Instead of passing a moratorium, Clerk Mike Sedlak said the township
decided to gather input and craft an ordinance. He said the goal was
"honoring the vote" approved by Michigan voters.
Voters approved the use of medical marijuana to allow patients with
debilitating illnesses to grow and possess marijuana for medical
purposes. Sedlak said township voters overwhelmingly approved the
medical marijuana proposal.
However, Sedlak said the new zoning changes keep the township in
compliance with all state and federal statutes involving marijuana.
The new rules take effect Dec. 31.
