THANKS TO THE STAR FOR COVERAGE
I express my deepest thanks to The Anniston Star for its in-depth
coverage of the Michael Lapihuska case. The Star printed a feature
story about Michael's situation. The Star also published many letters
from readers across Alabama and the nation who felt strongly that
Lapihuska should not be prosecuted because he was a legal medical
marijuana patient in another state and because most decent human
beings think it is wrong to arrest and prosecute sick people for
trying to feel better.
Without The Star's help, we at Alabamians for Compassionate Care
would never have been able to get the attention that Michael's case
deserved, nor would we have achieved the outcome of two years'
unsupervised probation. That allows Lapihuska to return home to
California and continue his doctor-recommended course of treatment
without fear of arrest, prosecution and imprisonment.
Many thanks to The Star for helping us save this man's life and
freedom. Chalk one up for the good guys.
