INDIANA OFFICIAL SUSPENDED PENDING REVIEW

INDIANAPOLIS -- The executive director of the Indiana Criminal
Justice Institute has been placed on paid administrative lead pending
a review by the state inspector general, Gov. Mitch Daniels' office
said Wednesday.

Heather Bolejack was placed on leave Tuesday at the recommendation of
Inspector General David Thomas, a news release from the governor's
press office said.

"No one likes taking this kind of action, but public confidence can
only be maintained by thorough and aggressive inquiry," Daniels
spokeswoman Jane Jankowski said in the release. "This is why the
governor urged creation of the inspector general and supports his
work, wherever it might lead."

No other details of the inquiry were provided in the statement, which
said the inspector general issues reports when his office's work is complete.

Jason Barclay, special counsel to the governor for public safety and
chairman of institute's board of trustees, and Jon von Arx, chairman
of the Commission for a Drug-Free Indiana, will oversee the
institute's daily operations until the problem is resolved, the release said.

Daniels in April 2005 appointed Bolejack, an attorney from
Indianapolis, to head the institute. The agency oversees state
planning for criminal justice, traffic safety and victim services,
and administers state money to carry out long-range strategies.

Bolejack had worked as a litigation associate for the Indianapolis
law firms of Ice Miller and Bingham McHale. At the time of her
appointment, Daniels said he wanted her to focus much of the
institute's efforts on initiatives to stop the spread of methamphetamine use.
