HEARING ABOUT MEDICAL MARIJUANA RAIDS UNDERWAY

What police officers saw and did during the Aug. 25 medical marijuana
raids in the Waterford and White Lake area is the subject of pre-exam
testimony today at 51st District Court in Waterford.

The testimony - presented before Judge Richard Kuhn Jr. - surrounds
eight of the nearly 20 people arrested during the raids.

Charges involved delivery and/or manufacture of marijuana, a
controlled substance. The raids were conducted by Oakland County's
Narcotics Enforcement Team at various growing operations and
marijuana dispensaries across the county. Beth Hand the Oakland
County is the assistant prosecutor in the case.

Six defense attorneys are in court representing the following people
arrested during the raid:

Matthew John-Drinnon Miller, 26, of Waterford, Laval Anthony
Crawford, 38, of Waterford, Todd Phillip Robinson, 34, of Southfield,
Kirk Alan Swafford, 28, of Waterford, Jennifer L. Zuck, 29, of
Waterford, Brian Vaughn of Waterford, and

William Joseph Teichman, 50, and Candace Teichman, a husband and wife
from White Lake.

Several police officers who participated in the raid of the
Teichmans' home in White Lake detailed what took place at the home
when they entered it with a search warrant.

Officers stated they found a gun safe with four long guns inside, and
two loaded handguns in the bedroom. One officer, Oakland County
Sheriff's Office Sgt. Matt Norman, said the long guns appeared to be
used for hunting.

Other officers are speaking about what they did during a raid at
Teichmans' restaurant, Everybody's Cafe, in Waterford.

A sticking point for many of the defense attorneys appears to be what
officers know about the state's medical marijuana act, passed in 2008.

"Getting information today is like pulling teeth at the dentist's,"
said Jeffrey Perlman, one of the Teichmans' attorneys. "Officers are
saying they don't remember (to several questions) and it's frustrating."
