FLUSHING TOWNSHIP PLANNING COMMISSION CONTINUES TO POSTPONE DECISION
ON A MEDICAL MARIJUANA ORDINANCE
FLUSHING TOWNSHIP, Michigan - The Flushing Township Planning
Commission members originally hopes to have a medical marijuana
ordinance drafted by their December meeting, but the issue has
continued to be put on hold.
At Monday's meeting the commission discussed the issue again, but
took no action.
Commission members are waiting for Township Attorney Steve Moulton to
review the white paper, an independent document created by a law
professor about the options municipalities have regarding the medical
marijuana law. The Michigan Municipal League has a link on its website.
"We're just trying to be fair to all citizens," said Planning
Commission Chairman Mark Newman. "Right now we are kind of just in a
holding pattern."
He said the commission members want to make sure they are clear on
what the township can and cannot legally do.
Newman hopes to move forward in the discussion at the Feb. 14
meeting. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at the Flushing
Township office, 6524 N. Seymour Road.
