EAST LANSING'S PROPOSED LAW ON MARIJUANA MISGUIDED
Letter to the editor
I have followed the marijuana dispensary issue in East Lansing with
interest. We do business with many dispensaries in many states. I find
the East Lansing council plan to shove dispensaries into office
locations to be -well, I'll be kind - a non -starter.
First, I wonder if anyone on the council did any fact finding during .
Did anyone call other states and municipalities to see what works and
what doesn't?
Apparently not.
Forcing dispensaries into office settings can't possibly work for many
reasons. Let's just take one: The 'aroma' is not condusive to a shared
office setting where normally the ceiling is open above ceiling tiles
between suites.
References have been made to some privacy afforded in an office
setting. Are offices really more private than commercial settings?
Dispensaries are commercial ventures, pure and simple. Patients and
caregivers don't care about this alleged privacy, that's a fabrication
at best. They don't care at 7-11, the Beer Store, the pharmacy. What
patients or caregivers do care about is safety, parking, handicap
access, access.
You won't see a 7-11 in an office setting. It doesn't belong. It's a
"commercial" venture, so are dispensaries. Can anyone imagine a
doctor's or dentist's office next to a dispensary.
Put dispensaries where they belong.
