A DANGEROUS PRECEDENT

Montana citizens, regardless of political party or feelings on medical
marijuana, should be alarmed that the Legislature is in the process of
repealing an initiative passed by over 276,000 voters. You should be
aware that it takes only 77 votes to throw out an initiative of the
people. In the past, the will of the people has been honored. This
session, HB161 was sponsored by the speaker of the House and 67
legislators are already on record to repeal an initiative passed by
the voters. Each and every one of these "representatives" should be
thrown out of office at the earliest possible time. Each and every one
of us should bear witness to this event and make sure these
"representatives" answer to it the next time they have to run, which
will be about a year from now. This clear disregard of the will of the
voters is a slippery slope and a dangerous erosion of the rights of
the citizens of this state. Idaho has introduced legislation
specifically forbidding this action without referring it back to the
voters for another vote. Any honorable person, and Legislature, would
do just that.
