SOME LANSING RESIDENTS FAVOR MORATORIUM

LANSING -- Some Lansing residents favor the medical marijuana
moratorium that Lansing officials are considering.

The likes of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Lewis Rich
Neighborhood Association have written letters supporting the move
that would halt any issuance of permits or licenses for new medical
marijuana establishments.

Those already operating would be grandfathered in.

"We are as unhappy, as are most of the residents of the city of
Lansing, with the reckless manner in which the State Legislature
passed this initiated law," Lewton Rich members say in their letter.
"Our hope lies in you to rectify this situation/problem so that
future moratoriums will be better monitored."

Lansing City Council plans to introduce its moratorium at this
evening's meeting. Members also may set a Dec. 6 public hearing. A
vote also may happen that night.

If the moratorium passes, "this does not preclude anything that is
currently open and functioning," Councilwoman Carol Wood said. "The
only way anything changes on that is if we adopt an ordinance and it
will depend on what any ordinance says."
