VASSAR APPROVES TEMPORARY MORATORIUM REGARDING MEDICAL MARIJUANA
VASSAR - Like many other municipalities, the City of Vassar has
decided to enact a 180-day moratorium on medical marijuana
establishments while it sorts out possible regulations and ordinances.
"There's nothing on the books right now," City Manager Julius Suchy
said. "There have been many challenges and some businesses in other
cities have been raided and are being prosecuted by federal law."
Although Michigan approved the medical marijuana proposition in 2008,
it is still considered a federal offense to operate such a business.
The moratorium will allow the council time to consider whether to
prohibit or adopt regulations pertaining to medical marijuana
businesses, Suchy said.
