PLANNERS MAY DENY MARIJUANA DISPENSARIES

DELHI TWP. - Township planners are leaning towards banning medical
dispensaries from opening shop in Delhi Townsihp.

The commission will meet Nov. 8 to discuss and possibly recommend an
ordinance amendment that would ban the businesses.

Delhi Township Community Development Director Tracy Miller said she
will write a draft of the consensus for planners to change or modify
at the meeting.

"From there, I'll present the planning commission's consensus to the
Delhi Township Board of Trustees on Dec. 7," she said.

The recommendation will be used as a guide for trustees to approve or
change any modification to the township's zoning ordinance.

Trustees approved a moratorium on new businesses related to the
medical marijuna act and charged the commission with developing a way
to regulate it.

Planners have been discussing the act and its implications at
bi-weekly meetings while trying to gain a consensus on how to regulate it.

After the last meeting on Oct. 25, the commission noted that the
Michigan Medical Marijuana Act does not provide for dispensaries.

The commission also felt that caregivers would have to operate at home.
