MORE METERS WOULD STOP OPS

Editor:

In Chilliwack, people are growing marijuana left and right. The growers
are stealing electricity and BC Hydro doesn't even know.

BC Hydro needs to come up with a better system of knowing how much
electricity a house is using. With a regular hydro meter, it reads how
much electricity the house is using. If you hook up a power line
before the meter, the growers are getting free power and Hydro doesn't
even detect it.

If Hydro was to put a meter on the power lines at the road and a meter
at the house telling them how much electricity is coming from the
power lines to the house, and if the house reads lower on the meter
than on the road, there is electricity being taken in between the meters.

If Hydro can recognize that power is being taken illegally, they would
contact the police and report stolen power and that there may be a
grow-op at that location. There are so many ways of stopping a grow-op
other than reports by citizens.
