THIRTY CHARGED FOR DRUGS AT SCHOOLS
Video surveillance operations carried out by city police in and around
Col. Gray and Charlottetown Rural High Schools between the end of
September and early October have identified over 30 people who were
using and/or supplying drugs.
Deputy Police Chief Gary McGuigan said earlier today that as a result
of that operation eight persons are facing charges under the
Controlled Drug and Substance Act. Two of those eight are not students.
The remaining persons will be charged under the Youth Criminal Justice
Act.
McGuigan said that investigation is still ongoing and further
information may be forthcoming.
The drugs identified in the surveillance operation were soft
drugs.
"Basically, we're talking about marijuana and its derivatives.,"
McGuigan said.
Police are working closely with school officials to reduce the amount
of drugs available in the schools and make the schools safer for all
students.
No court dates have been set for those facing charges.
Teen arrested for graffiti
City police have also charged a 19-year-old area resident in
connection with the application of graffiti to the exterior of Col.
Gray High School.
McGuigan said the same accused is also being looked at for graffiti on
the exterior of Holy Redeemer Church.
No court date has yet been set.
