SMOKING JOINT SPARKS DEBATE ON HEALTH CARE

Editor, the Times:

I want to thank Samuel Mellace for smoking cannabis (marijuana) in the
House of Commons (Abby man lights joint in House of Commons, Times,
Oct. 8) and bringing attention to an uncompassionate, ignorant and
immoral law.

I was aware that Canada allows sick citizens to use cannabis but
didn't know they were not allowed to eat cannabis in foods.

Many sick citizens prefer eating cannabis. It's difficult to
understand or imagine why cannabis prohibitionists will allow a cancer
patient to smoke but not eat the relatively safe, God-given plant.

It should be easy enough for compassionate and intelligent politicians
to stop what they're doing and fix that problem.
