MORE CONS THAN PROS TO MEDICAL MARIJUANA
To the editor:
Sunday's edition had many letters either advocating for or in
opposition against decriminalizing marijuana, especially medical
marijuana. Let me say that I researched this very subject for my
senior research paper at NAU seven years ago and I am here to say that
marijuana holds no medical advantages despite what some people might
proclaim.
Smoking marijuana will not cure your cancer or glaucoma, or fight your
AIDS, though it might relieve your pain or increase your appetite by
giving you the munchies. Also, smoking a marijuana cigarette can have
the same amount of carcinogens as smoking four Marlboro Reds, so
smoking marijuana may actually give you cancer.
If our community needs any more proof as to dangerousness of the drug,
let us remember that two years ago our community experienced a murder
and a loss of young man coming into the prime of his life because of
the drug marijuana. Can you promise me that would not have happened if
it was legal? People are people and people are greedy.
