VIDEO RATES JAIL: CROWN

A Downtown Eastside hotel owner who filmed himself assaulting tenants over
drug disputes to show the world the "plight" of addicts could face up to 15
years in jail.

Crown prosecutor Peter Hogg has recommended Anthony Terezakis receive nine
years in jail on drug-related charges and six more for the assaults caught
on tape as lawyers made their final submissions in the bizarre case. Terms
such as "violent", "torture", "control", "degrading" and "intimidate" came
up often as Hogg explained Terezakis' conduct in over 12 hours of footage
reviewed by the jury, which saw him yell at and beat up tenants of the
American Hotel.

Defence lawyer Pamela Smith-Gander defended the 46-year-old by telling
Madame Justice Heather Holmes that Terezakis at the time was dealing with
drug addiction himself and that many scenes in the "reality-based"
Jackass-inspired videos show a genuine care for people's well being.
