DETENTION WORKER ALLEGEDLY PROVIDED MARIJUANA TO YOUTHS
A 34-year-old former staff member of a Saskatoon youth detention
centre has been charged with drug trafficking on allegations he
provided youths with marijuana.
James Heidt, who worked at Kilburn Hall, made his first court
appearance this week. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 7.
Heidt has been charged with trafficking in marijuana.
Police said they began the investigation following reports "that a
male staff member had been providing marijuana" to youth incarcerated
at Kilburn Hall.
A spokesperson for the provincial Ministry of Justice said Heidt was
suspended with pay when the allegations first came to light, as is the
standard procedure. He was fired several months ago
There are no other employees suspected of being involved in the case,
the spokesperson said.
