MAYBANKS THE MAN
I have met Nick Maybanks, Democratic candidate for county attorney,
and I am convinced he is the best choice for county attorney in the
upcoming Democratic primary. Nick has reached out to college students
and young people in his campaign. The county attorney is the chief
law-enforcement officer for Johnson County. Nick has a vast amount of
experience prosecuting all types of crimes, including domestic abuse,
child abuse, and other violent crimes. He has also prosecuted drug
and alcohol offenses.
Nick believes that the criminal system is too focused on the
prosecution of low-level drug and alcohol offenses and that these
offenses can be diverted from the system through court-diversion
programs, so we can focus more on violent crime. These programs would
emphasize community service, treatment, or education and a six-month
probationary period. Offenders would be allowed to earn charges off
their records. Nick is concerned that one of five UI students leave
Johnson County with a criminal record and believes it is time for a change.
Please vote early on campus before you leave for the summer. I am
casting my vote for Nick Maybanks for county attorney.
