POLICE TAKE TO SKIES TO FIND MATURING POT PLANTS

It's harvest time in the backwoods of Vancouver Island again.

Marijuana plants are nearing maturity, and that means police -- with
support from military personnel -- are taking to the air in search of
outdoor grow operations. A team of Vancouver Island RCMP, Victoria
and Saanich police will take part in the annual operation.

Const. Tammy Douglas of Comox Valley RCMP said in a release that the
annual push routinely nets fields of 200 plants, with some operations
as large as 900 plants. Destroying the plants disrupts the flow of
illegal drugs to the streets and the flow of funding to organized
crime, Douglas said.
